For Students between the High Beginning 1 - Intermediate 4 levels

Our 8-day immersion programs provide you with a unique opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the Spanish language and Mexican culture in the breathtaking city of Oaxaca, Mexico! Discover the vibrant charm of Oaxaca, where colorful streets meet rich traditions. We’ll visit gorgeous neighborhoods, eat world-class cuisine, and explore bustling markets filled with artisanal treasures. From its historic center to its lush valleys, Oaxaca offers an unforgettable blend of culture, history, and natural beauty. You’ll take three hours of Spanish class every morning (M-F) with local teachers, while enjoying cultural visits to markets, museums, and city landmarks in the afternoons. A local expert will take us on two full-day guided trips to explore the neighboring towns, visit several markets, see artisan’s workshops up close, and eat in unique restaurants. Each trip is capped at 12 students so you’ll have plenty of opportunities to practice your Spanish with the other students and the two Language House teachers leading the trip. You can enjoy breakfast each morning at our beautiful hotel before walking to the nearby language school. We’ll have lunch together every day and most dinners are included, as well as a cooking class and a mezcal tasting. We hope you’ll join us for this unforgettable experience in Oaxaca!

Testimonials

I loved our trip to Oaxaca! We had classes every day in very small groups, which really helped my Spanish learning. It was also really interesting to learn from someone from Oaxaca. We practiced Spanish a lot each day, and it was really fun to get to know the people on my trip and the people in Oaxaca. I even had my first dream in Spanish during the trip. It was an experience I'll never forget!

The Language House trip to Oaxaca was everything I imagined and more! The school, the conversations (todos en espanol), the leaders, and the Oaxacan experience were enlightening, inspiring, and unforgettable. Did I mention fun?? Lots of fun. And, most importantly, it jump-started my progression to greater level of confidence in speaking and thinking in Spanish.  Highly recommend this trip!!

I have had a goal to become fluent in Spanish since I graduated college. I started taking classes at The Language House for about 6 months when Virginia offered the Oaxaca program. I really wanted a more intensive program that would kick me up to the next level in my fluency in addition to the weekly class. This trip did that and more. I originally was a bit nervous being a different age than the majority of the trip attendee's, but I could not have asked for a better group. The format of the trip, Spanish school in the morning and Spanish tours/activities in the afternoon, was the perfect mix of school and fun. I was able to not only practice what I had learned over the past 6 months, but also learned new concepts at the school in Oaxaca. The Oaxaca Spanish school did a great job separating us into groups of Spanish-speaking levels making the morning classes very effective. The rest of the afternoon I was able to practice the new vocabulary or grammar concept and by the end of the day I was using the morning class material naturally. Virginia really put together a great itinerary of both sightseeing, food and experiences. We did a cooking class, mezcal tasting, got to see the world's thickest tree, some beautiful churches and architecture and also ate at some fabulous restaurants. Both Gabi and Virginia kept Spanish conversations flowing at all of our meals and by the end of the trip it really felt like we were all conversing more naturally without their input. Virginia and Gabi are the perfect balance of Spanish speaking intensives while also enjoying Oaxaca and having fun. I cannot recommend this trip enough for that person who feels like they have plateaued and wants to kick their Spanish skills up a level while also exploring a cute little town in Mexico!

I was lucky to be in the first group to visit Oaxaca. Honestly, I don’t know where to begin! First, it surpassed all of my expectations. Having Gabi and Virginia guide us throughout the visit was extra special because of their knowledge of the city and the language.

Our accommodations were comfortable and ideal - filled with local artwork and ambiance. We were able to easily walk to restaurants, shopping and classes from the hotel. I can’t say enough about how special it was to learn Spanish from the local teachers- we quickly learned some of the phrases we were using were not appropriate for Mexico, which was hilarious!

Although most of us in the group did not know each other beforehand, due to all of our shared adventures, we became close friends by the end. Finally, the side excursions should not be missed! Favorites were the textile manufacturer, the shop of alebrijes, a cooking class and last but not least, mezcal tasting, all of which made it a really delightful experience! I highly recommend this trip to everyone!

I can’t say enough good things about The Language House program in Oaxaca. A few years ago I attended another Spanish class in Mexico that was very good—but it doesn’t hold a candle to The Language House program. During my time there with the language House, I not only improved my Spanish dramatically and gained real confidence speaking it, but I also deepened my understanding of Mexican culture and daily life. The experience was both enriching and great fun!   Lots of laughter, interesting and fun people, and great food.  I would love to do this again with the Language House.

This trip was absolutely outstanding! From incredible art and pottery to Michelin-star dinners and local music in the streets, it offered an experience you simply couldn’t recreate on your own. Virginia did an amazing job handling every logistical detail, allowing you—as a student—to truly relax and enjoy every moment to the fullest!

-Brett G., Austin, TX

The Oaxaca trip was an amazing experience and one that I would recommend to all of you.  The city itself is lovely, and full of history.  I never felt unsafe while walking around which I did every morning before class.  The Spanish classes were small and personal, and the instructors were wonderful.

Virginia’s  daily activities were perfect , whether you wanted a mescal tasting, a lesson on the history of rug making, or an authentic Mexican cooking experience, it’s all available.

Getting to know fellow Language House students was a huge part of the experience and definitely a plus.

For me, the one week in Oaxaca helped improve my Spanish more than weeks of class, and on top of that the whole experience felt magical. Starting the day with school and then setting out to explore with the group was the perfect way to spend the weekdays. The weekend outings to various artisans were so interesting, getting to see how things are made and learning more about regional culture. Even though my Spanish wasn’t as strong as others was, there was always someone to help if needed.   Everything was taken care of so I could focus on Spanish and enjoy the beautiful city with its vibrant colors and of course the delicious food.  I look forward to going again!

It was a really fantastic and well-curated experience. I felt like my Spanish moved forward by leaps and bounds, and I challenged myself to keep speaking even when we were just with our group. The old section of Oaxaca is really a magical place and it was great to be there for a whole week - one highlight for me was exploring the tent-covered market in a nearby village on the second day - I loved sampling all the foods and drinks, shopping for gifts, and immersing myself in the chaos of the marketplace.
