Bienvenid@s to the Language House and virtual Spanish camps, summer 2020!

Welcome to Virtual Spanish camp for kids! Sessions 1 and 2 are designed for rising 5th, 6th, and 7th graders. Sessions 3 and 4 are designed for rising 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. These camps are designed to be a positive, relaxed, and high-energy way for students to start learning Spanish, or to improve on their previous knowledge. Each session will be full of engaging activities, videos, games, music, art and culture while kids learn in an immersion environment.

There is a limit of 8 students per session to give everyone plenty of opportunities to participate and practice speaking & listening skills. Students will be provided a vocabulary list, extra homework, and supplementary study resources after each class. Friday sessions will focus on culture and food, and students will learn how to prepare a typical Spanish or Mexican dish during our virtual classes. Cost per session: $250.

Session 1: Beginning Part 1; Monday-Friday from 1:45-2:45 pm; June 1-12

The first session is designed for rising 5th, 6th, and 7th graders who have never taken Spanish or who need a refresher from Spanish 1. Students will learn about greetings & introductions, descriptions of emotions and interests, colors & numbers, food, and understand & answer basic questions. We’ll make guacamole & Mexican wedding cookies for this session!

Session 2: Beginning Part 2; Monday-Friday from 1:45-2:45 pm; June 15-26

The second session is designed for rising 7th and 8th graders who have taken Spanish 1 at their school and are ready for a little bit more of a challenge while having fun. Students will get lots of practice with conversations and build on the material they learned in Spanish 1. Vocabulary units will focus on describing themselves and their interests, locations, activities, food, and more. We will make guacamole & pico de gallo and tres leches cake on the Fridays of this session.

Session 3: High Beginning; Please check back in the summer of 2021!

The third session is designed for rising 5th and 6th graders who took Session 1 of the camp or students who have had some basic exposure to Spanish. Students will have a new vocabulary list every day and will work on improving their ability to form basic sentences and improve their listening and comprehension. We will have two cooking classes on the Fridays of this camp.

The continuation of Session 3, this camp is for rising 7th, 8th or 9th graders who either took Session 3, have already completed two years of Spanish at their school, or are heritage speakers who need a more formal explanation of grammar structures. Students will learn to have longer and more varied conversations about locations, weather, animals, leisure & outdoor activities, food & cooking, and shopping in stores and markets.

Session 4: Intermediate; Please check back in the summer of 2021!
